“The program is an attempt to get people to consider changing their old stoves which pollute the air, with newer safer models,” said Mark Sylvia Commissioner of the Department of Energy Resources.
Until Jan. 17, the program will be open only to low-income residents who provide proof of enrollment in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, MassHealth or the Women, Infants and Children program, Sylvia said. Those participants will be eligible for a $2,000 voucher.

The $100,000 pilot program announced Thursday is being run by the state and the quasi-public Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
The $2,000 rebate is open only to low income residents who provide proof of enrollment in the Low income Home Energy Assistance Program, MassHealth or the Women, Infants and Children program.
Other residents are eligible for the $1,000 rebate.
State Department of Energy Resources Commissioner Mark Sylvia said he hopes the program inspires people to upgrade wood heating systems.
